Annual income upto Rs. 8 lakhs annually from vegetable production in 5 acres of land

Numeorus vegetable growers and farmers of Chhattisgarh are reaping huge benefits In the field of horticulture from the combination of state government schemes and the use of innovative technology. Farmers are also trying their hand at diverse variety of vegetable production with the use of hi tech agricultural equipment and technical guidance from government departments.
Such is the story of, Mr. Krishna Dutt, a vegetable producer, who says that earlier he used to just cultivate paddy and maize in 5 acres of irrigated area. Due to the use of old technology, there was very little income in agriculture. He further says that as soon as the Horticulture Department got information about the ‘Rashtriy Bagwaani mission scheme’ (National Horticulture Mission scheme), he immediately contacted the department.
Krishna Dutt, a resident farmer of Mahora village in the Baikunthpur development block of Koriya district also availed the benefit of drip irrigation scheme from the department in the year 2019-20. He started with 2.5 acres at a cost of around 1.29 lacs. Drip has been planted in this land, in which 70 percent departmental grant and 30 percent farmer’s share was given.
Krishna Dutt further says that using the innovative technique of drip irrigation, he has planted horticulture crops like cabbage, chilli, brinjal, tomato, pumpkin, papaya in the fields. Due to which he is making a substantial profit of 8 to 10 lakh rupees in 1 year. Along with this, he has also got the benefit of Pack House Scheme, Shade Net Scheme, Power Weeder Scheme and DBT Scheme from the department.
Krishnadutt is very happy with the benefits received from the drip irrigation system. When plants are irrigated by drip irrigation system, plants receive balanced amount of water. Drip irrigation system is very helpful for farmers who can easily irrigate their fields and orchards through this method. Water is made available to the plants in the form of drops in the root zone of the plants as per their requirement.
