These Women Self-Help Groups have an amazing story of their journey to self-dependence

Pragati group earned Rs 37 lakh in three years by conducting multiple livelihood activities in Gauthan

Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel had started the Suraji Gaon Yojana in Chhattisgarh with the aim of taking the rural economy of Chhattisgarh to a new height of success. This ambitious scheme of the government has started yielding significant positive results. Women in rural areas of Chhattisgarh are exploring the new employment opportunities, and have an amazing story to tell about their journey towards self-dependence and financial empowerment. Rural women, who were earlier dependent on the male members of their family to have their basic needs met, are now becoming financially empowered and opening new doors of possibilities.
One such story is of Balrampur-Ramanujganj district situated in the northern end of Chhattisgarh. The women members of the Pragati Mahila Self-Help Group here have earned about Rs 37 lakh 17 thousand in the last three years by making vermicompost from cow dung, making manure from the waste collected from neighbourhood and from the works of community garden development.

So far, 3 thousand 724 quintals of vermicompost manure has been produced by 28 women of Pragati Self Help Women’s Group, out of which 3 thousand 631 quintals of vermicompost has been sold, earning a total income of Rs 36 lakh 31 thousand 700. With this income, the self-help group has made a profit of Rs 9 lakh 58 thousand 200.

Government and Administration are extending every possible support
Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel’s ambitious Narva, Garuva, Ghurwa and Bari scheme has given a new boost to the spirits of women of self-help groups and they are setting new records of growth and empowerment. Mrs. Lakho Puri of Pragati Women Self Help Group says that 28 women in her group are manufacturing vermicompost from cow dung, and they are earning good additional income from the same. This work has not only made them financially independent but has also earned them a prestigious place in the society. She said that the divident money they have received has significantly improved the economic condition of their family. The secretary of the group says that Godhan Nyaya Yojana has become a source of additional income for us women, the income earned under this scheme is contributing towards the education of their children.

Multiple Activities are being conducting in Gauthan

These hard-working women of the self-help group do door-to-door garbage collection on e-rickshaws and mini-tippers, which they themselves drive. They collect garbage from homes and bring it to the segregation shed built in Gauthan. Group member Geeta Nagvanshi said that mustard, banana, tomato, peas, gram, garlic and onion are also being cultivated under the community garden initiative in the Gauthan. Besides, the group is earning additional income from poultry farming and quail farming as well.
