Government of India will Extend Necessary Assistance and Support to Chhattisgarh in the Fight Against Naxalism

Sanction of Rs 30 Crore for the Modernization of Chhattisgarh Police announced

Raipur, 25 August 2024/ Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, in his address to a review meeting held in Raipur yesterday, highlighted the substantial success achieved by the Chhattisgarh Government in its anti-Maoist operations across all fronts. He said that the progress made in the past eight months to curb Maoist activities in Chhattisgarh is commendable. Lauding the competent leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, Shri Amit Shah said that the Maoist-affected areas in the state have significantly shrunk, as a result of the effective execution of anti-Naxal Operations by the Chhattisgarh Government. He added that Shri Sai’s administration has neutralized 150 Maoist terrorists in just eight months, while registering surrender of four times as many individuals. Shri Shah has given instructions for further intensification of these operations.

Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah emphasized that he is in constant communication with the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh. He assured that the Government of India will extend the necessary support to Chhattisgarh in its battle against Naxalism. He underlined the importance of joint efforts by central and state agencies to disrupt the financial networks of the Naxalites, urging tax agencies to take sensitive and decisive action in this regard. Shri Shah also instructed the initiation of community awareness programs in Naxal-affected areas to ensure that the people there are well-informed about governmental schemes, procedures, and intentions.

He further emphasized on the importance of complete saturation and effective implementation of all 300 central and state schemes in the regions previously plagued by Maoist terror. Shri Shah stressed that any armed movement can only be quelled by fostering trust in the government among the people. He announced an allocation of Rs 30 crore for the modernization of the Chhattisgarh Police.

Director General of Police, Chhattisgarh, Shri Ashok Juneja, gave presentation on the current security arrangements, progress in anti-Maoist operations, and future plans for the Naxal-affected regions. During the discussions, Union Home Minister gave instructions to maximize the facilities provided to the people in these regions. He said that it is increasingly evident that a large number of Maoists in Chhattisgarh wish to surrender, and comprehensive knowledge of the surrender policy should be maintained.

The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Shri Nityanand Rai, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma, Union Home Secretary Shri Govind Mohan, and Directors General of IB, NIA, CRPF, BSF, ITBP, and SSB. Also present were Chhattisgarh’s Chief Secretary Shri Amitabh Jain, Director General of Police Shri Ashok Juneja, along with the Chief Secretaries and Directors General of Police from Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Maharashtra, as well as senior officials from both central and state governments.
