24 Khelo India Centers approved in the state for various kinds of sports
Raipur, 25 May 2023/ An MoU for establishing 24 Khelo India Centers in Chhattisgarh for various kinds of sports has been signed between the Directorate of Sports and Sports Authority of India (SAI). Director Sports Mrs Shweta Shrivastav Sinha and Regional Director of SAI Mr. Vishnu Sudhakar signed the MoU today. On the proposal of the Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare, Sports Authority of India has given approval for establishing 24 Khelo India Centers in 24 districts of the state in three phases.
In the first phase, Khelo India Centers for ‘Malkhamb’ in Narayanpur, centers for archery in Bijapur and in Shivtarai Bilaspur, for volleyball in Gariaband, for football in Surguja, Khelo India centers for hockey in Jashpur and Rajnandgaon have been approved. Rs 7 lakh was sanctioned for each centre, utility certificates for which have been sent to SAI. Sports Authority of India is yet to release Rs 3 lakh per center for aforementioned seven centers.
In the second phase, Khelo India Centers have been approved for following seven districts- center for weightlifting in Balod, center for football in Balodabazar, kabaddi in Patan Durg, weightlifting in Raipur, badminton in Raigarh, football in Sukma and center for kho kho in Kanker. Similarly, in the third phase, Khelo India Centers have been approved in 10 districts, which includes center for Hockey in Bastar, Wrestling in Dhamtari, Hockey in Janjgir-Champa, Football in Korba and Balrampur, Kabaddi in Bemetara, Archery in Dantewada, Archery in Mahasamund, Khelo India Center for Football in Mungeli and Surajpur. In all the aforementioned districts, the process of online registration of sportspersons and appointment of coaches for the centers has been completed as per the guidelines of Khelo India, and training is being imparted. Soon the Sports Authority of India will release the remaining funds for all the Khelo India Centers in Chhattisgarh.
Among the remaining 9 districts, proposal for 4 districts including Sarangarh Bilaigarh, Kondagaon, Gaurela Pendra Marwahi and Sakti has already been sent to SAI. Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare will soon send the proposal for the remaining 5 districts. Khelo India Centers are being set up with the objective of providing high-level sports training to the youngsters.
