Barpali Gauthan transformed into Multi-Activity Center, empowering women and making them self-reliant

Employment-oriented activities like vegetable farming, duck rearing, vermi-compost manufacturing and poultry farming being run in the Gauthan

Women expresses gratitude to Chief Minister, says they no longer have to depend on others

Raipur 1 December 2021/ With an aim to increase employment opportunities for women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and make them self-reliant, the Gauthans (cowsheds) constructed under Suraji Gaon scheme are being transformed into multi-activity centers.

One such example is of Adarsh Gauthan in Barpali village of Bilaspur district, where women are writing a new chapter of development, transforming their lives from poverty to prosperity. As many as 51 women of total 5 women SHGs of Dhauramuda village are indulged in economic as well as creative activities. The work of manufacturing vermi compost and super compost manure is being done by Maa Lakshmi Self Help Group and Maa Saraswati Self Help Group. They have earned an income of Rs 71, 342 from vermi compost and Rs 17, 551 from super compost manure. Maa Lakshmi Self Help Group are doing poultry farming and fish farming in two ponds here. They have generated an income of Rs 60,000 from poultry farming.

Women of Annapurna Self Help Group are doing work of fencing in 4 acre land. The women associated with this group are generating a monthly income of Rs 5000 to 7000 through vegetable farming in this area. At present, they have planted tomato, brinjal, potato, red amaranth (lal bhaji), radish and cauliflower. Similarly, in the pasture land, Annapurna Group has planted Guava in 2 acres land and Napier Grass in 1 acre land with the help of Livestock Development Department.

The women associated with Budhimai Self Help Group of village Dhauramuda are making decorative items, toys, tree guard night lamps and small chairs using bamboo crafts. They are generating an income of about Rs 15,000 to 20,000. The group had recently set up their stalls in district level Rajyotsava and tribal festival, where items worth Rs 50,000 were sold. The women associated with Vaishnavi Self Help Group have generated an income of Rs 36,000 by duck farming.

Other girls of the village are also getting inspired seeing these women work and become self-independent. The young girls of the village, who earlier used to do mushroom production, are now doing poultry farming by forming Kanya Self-Help Group.

These women have extended their gratitude towards Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel saying that their lives have been completely changed for good with this scheme. They no longer have to be dependent on others and are now playing an important role in running the family. They are now earning more respect in the village as well as society.
